It seems that Seedorf isn’t going to be the only Botafogo signing in this transfer window. While Racing midfielder Claudio Yacob, who is nearing the end of his contract and was previously heavily linked to Fogão, seems to be put aside after the team contracted Rafael Marques for his position, they’ll look to go “all-in” for Ex-Ajax player Nicolás Lodeiro.
Lodeiro, as an attacking midfielder, would fill a roster spot left open by Maicosuel’s transfer to Udinese, while Elkeson was (seemingly successfully) moved from attacking midfielder to striker by Botafogo coach Osvaldo de Oliveira. Another fact is that following Loco Abreu’s departure to Figueirense and Herrera’s move to UAE, Botafogo has space for 2 more internacional players in their squad. Lodeiro and Yacob seemed to be the 1st choices to join Seedorf as the foreigners, but Yacob seems to be out of the race.
It’ll be interesting to see what status Lodeiro will have if his transfer is completed. Would he come as a straight 1st option or would he have to earn his place in the team? Also, Botafogo will have to watch his injury problems closely, as he missed the entire 2010-2011 season for Ajax due to an injury picked up in the World Cup when he was representing Uruguay.
Well, that’s Brazilian silly season for you.
