After a month, Maicosuel was finally announced as the newest Udinese reinforcement for the 2012-2013 season.
His transfer fee was of €5.2m, where Italian club Udinese bought Botafogo’s 80%. Maicosuel made the way back to Brazil and Botafogo from German side Hoffenheim after Fogão paid €3.6m for his rights. Hoffenheim maintained his 20% bound to the player.
Maicosuel’s cameo was unfortunately marred by injury, something that affected him throughout his career. It’s surprising that his transfer fee was high considering he hadn’t been the same on form, and was coming off an injury before his transfer. When he’s “on”, Maicosuel brings his speed, pace and dribbling to threat opposing defenders and goalkeepers. His favoured position is as an AMC, and as a right footed player he can also play RM/RW.
He can be a bit selfish sometimes, but his passing doesn’t have much quality and his finishing is acceptable for his position. He’s mainly a burner; not that it is a problem, but I wonder if teams those days aren’t favouring AMCs that are more capable of dictating tempo rather than dribbling, leaving that function to their wingers.
