Internacional still had hopes over repatriating their idol. But instead of choosing the club who made his career, Nilmar went the other way, signing with Qatarian club Al-Rayyan.
According to reports, Al-Rayyan wages would mount up to €360,000 monthly; that’s twice of what Internacional could’ve proposed to him. Another factor is that their transfer bid met Villarreal’s expectations.
Nilmar was quoted by saying “that’s a proposal that would make me think of retirement” regarding Al-Rayyan’s offer, and indeed it is. Internacional board tried to contact Nilmar’s agent, Orlando da Hora, in the past two days but was unable to do it. Maybe they used Internacional as leverage to definitely close the deal and to push his wages higher.
In all fairness, Nilmar made a wise choice for his family. Badly for him, Internacional fans won’t react so nicely to that.
