Brazil (?) x Argentina (?)

Back when football was almost entirely an amateur sport, Brazil and Argentina already had an old country rivalry. Political debacles regarding the possession of the territory which is now known as Uruguay was the closest both countries had been to start a true war. There were a few years of both countries “baring” each other until Argentinian president Julio Argentino Roca decided to create a competition which would feature both teams and build more on the mystique of the biggest rivalry in football: the Copa Roca.

Atlético Mineiro makes good start in Brazilian League, but schedule might be a problem

United as one

When the season began, there were three favorites for the Brazilian League title: Corinthians, Vasco and Fluminense. They were 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the league table last season respectively, and they were also expected to challenge for the title again this year. But at the moment, while Vasco and Fluminense are pretty much on the title run and looking like good contenders and Corinthians lost much of their step after focusing on Copa Libertadores, there is a party crasher in the middle of them, one that stands at 1st place and doesn’t seem to be willing to move from there: Atlético Mineiro.

Brazilian League Serie A – Round 8 Review

Fluminense beats Flamengo in game completing 100 years of rivalry

This one is coming up REALLY late, right? Hopefully that won’t become a habit.

Anyway, excuses aside, this round really favored home teams, as 7 games in a total of 10 were won by the hosts. There was also a rather high goal ratio per game, standing at 2.5 but highly inflated by the Santos x Grêmio scoreboard.
