Riquelme says “no” to Flamengo, exposes team weaknesses

We’ve been following Flamengo’s transfer saga in this international transfer window since the month began. Unfortunately for them, it hasn’t been much of a success as they saw Wolfsburg saying “no” to their loan bid to get attacking midfielder Diego, and long-time idol and center-back Juan, previously on Italian side Roma, chose Internacional instead of his childhood club also putting the blame on Flamengo’s board to his decision. An update on Riquelme and Diego to Flamengo rumours

Diego and Riquelme polarizing Flamengo’s board.

Diego, currently at Wolfsburg, and Riquelme, who’s leaving Boca Juniors at the moment according to his agent, have been linked to Flamengo these past days in the media. Flamengo reportedly made a bid of €2.6m to get Diego on loan, and Flamengo’s football director Zinho said he’d be interested in acquiring Riquelme’s services. Riquelme close to Flamengo

After suffering a heart-breaking defeat by Corinthians when playing with Boca Juniors, Juan Roman Riquelme announced that would be his last professional game with a Bostero shirt. He would look for a move to a club where he wouldn’t be a liability, as age has caught up with him and his superior technical ability hasn’t emerged in his last few games.

Corinthians, and how to make a hero an instant villain

Yesterday, at 23h50m in Brazil, Corinthians won their first Copa Libertadores trophy in their 102 years history. The team already had a CWC trophy, won in 2000 in a tournament played in Brazil which featured Corinthians as a guest. It’s funny to see how the Champions League for European teams is much more important than the CWC itself, whereas for South American ones a CWC title is sometimes much more important than the Copa Libertadores itself.  Continue reading
