Romanian club wants Flamengo youngster

Diego Maurício bound to CFR Cluj loan

An old news this week starts to develop about Flamengo’s youngster Diego Maurício. Reports say that “Drogbinha”, due to the player’s visual resemblance with Chelsea idol and now Shenshua Shanghai player Didier Drogba, is close to move on loan to Romanian club CFR Cluj.

It is rumoured that the loan fee revolves around €2m – too high, in my opinion – to get Diego Maurício in a one year loan at Romania. No information was given over whether there’ll be a 1st option release clause or how clubs would divide wages to pay the player.

Flamengo received bids for Diego Maurício from Ukranian side Shakhtar Donestk and from Valencia as well, but both were deemed too low. Unfortunately for the club, Diego Maurício’s value only diminished as he didn’t feature as often in first team for the following games.

Sending Diego Maurício away at the moment would be unwise, as Flamengo is proving to be very difficult to attract top-tier players recently. Being dismissed by Juan and Diego and seeing Riquelme close to move to Middle East or China brought Flamengo’s board back to Earth, and they’re also seeing how they need to use players from their youth ranks more often if they really want to succeed this year. They need depth as well, and Diego Maurício can still be an impact sub for them.
